Cataclysm Beta Key Contest

The Afternoon Delight raid team has officially entered the Cataclysm Beta Key Contest by submitting the essay below. Each week — up to July 15 — Blizzard will select 100 entries. Winners will receive 10 beta keys to test the upcoming expansion. A big thanks to Dan and Jim for their ideas for the essay. Now we just need to sit back and wait for our keys!

Feeble rays of 6:30 CST (7:30 server!) sunlight die over the barren winter horizon as Afternoon Delight prepares for an evening of slaying and plundering internet monsters. Miles of intertubes may separate them, but these ten Kingslayers are joined by strong bonds of friendship, some dating well before the supreme reign of Ragnaros in the Molten Core.

Dan, his pvp gear and spec still firmly in place, triggers a readycheck, jumping incessantly as he watches the no’s roll in. Shannon pleads for a Wisdom and MoW to accompany her [Iron Boot Flask]. Glennae must be working, because Adam isn’t online, but rather slaying dirty diapers. Ryan, after working 60 hours in 2 days, is quietly dozing on his keyboard while Mike has somehow managed to already die. Sean’s bold claims of healing dominance fall on deaf ears, as Kevin has again disconnected. Clint hearths as a month of “friendly reminders” has finally motivated him to enchant his weapon, while Al parses last week’s combat logs regemming his gear for the 4th time in as many days. Behind it all, Jim quips and taunts us all, bringing tears to our eyes – of laughter or pain?

These casual but accomplished 10-man strict raiders value fun over phat purps and have several raids worth of max-level, profession-loving alts. Now, only one thing stands between them and Cataclysmic glory. Is it Death Wing? Queen Azshara? Or perhaps Malfurian? No. Simply a lack of beta keys.

Is all lost?

  1. Adam helped too! Take some credit!

This was fun. Hopefully we’ll get some keys!

  2. I lol’d, especially at the part about me disconnecting. Good work guys, we may soon be slaying beasts all the way to 85.
